Peshawar is the capital city of the Pakistani province of Khyber Pakhtunkwa. It is close to the border of Afghanistan situated near the broad valley in the eastern end of the Khyber Pass due to which Peshawar has political and military importance. According to the population it is the sixth largest city of Pakistan. Peshawar is known as city of flowers as the word Peshawar is derived from Sanskrit word Pushpapura which means Flower. Peshawar is now divided into three different parts one is known as old city, other is the cantonment and the newest one is modern residential area.
Pashto language is widely spoken in Peshawar. and the other language which are also spoken there are Hindko and Balochi as the native from this region also lives there in good numbers.
It is one of the oldest city of Pakistan. It has a long ancient mughal time’s history- It has been a tourist attraction for its historical building and places. The specialty of Peshawar is its unique cuisine which is different from rest of the country. Dum Pukht is one of the most popular dish from Peshawar- Meat and vegetables are slowly cooked with very few spices to release its maximum flavor, the end result is very aromatic and flavorful. Peshawari chappli kebab is served all over the country. It is a beef mince mixed with special spice which is than deep fried and tastes scrumptious. And the traditional tea known as qehwa is a must have while you are at Peshawar. It is truly enjoyed by travelers- who get relief from all the tiredness while sipping the cup of this tea.
