Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a new petrol relief scheme to help people facing the pressure of rising fuel costs in Pakistan. Under the scheme, eligible users of motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqi rickshaws, and small cars can receive Rs100 per litre relief on petrol.
The scheme mainly targets people who depend on smaller vehicles for daily travel. For a worker riding a motorcycle to the office every day, a family using a small car, or an eligible rickshaw user, even a limited fuel discount can reduce monthly travel costs.
However, there is an important point to understand. The government is not reducing the general petrol price by Rs100 per litre for everyone. Instead, eligible people will receive Rs100 per litre relief on a fixed amount of petrol each month.
Motorcycles and eligible two- or three-wheelers can receive the relief on up to 20 litres per month, while qualifying cars with engines of up to 800cc can receive relief on up to 30 litres per month.

What Is PM Shehbaz Sharif’s Rs100 Petrol Relief Scheme?
The PM Fuel Relief Scheme is a targeted petrol support program rather than a general reduction in fuel prices.
Under this program, the government provides eligible consumers with a Rs100 discount on each litre of petrol they purchase within their approved quota.
This means if the regular petrol price at a station is Rs370 per litre, an eligible person would effectively pay Rs270 per litre for the petrol covered by the scheme. The exact amount paid will depend on the official petrol price at the time of purchase.
The purpose is simple: instead of providing the same subsidy to every vehicle owner, the government wants to direct financial support toward people using smaller and generally more affordable vehicles.

Who Can Get the Rs100 Per Litre Petrol Relief?
According to the government’s announced criteria, the scheme covers motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqi or Chingchi vehicles, other qualifying two- and three-wheelers, and cars with engines of up to 800cc.
The size of the monthly benefit depends on the type of vehicle.

The ECC approval issued on September 14 also says the scheme is limited to one vehicle per user or owner. It also describes the scheme as targeted toward lower-income groups and states that the Fuel Pass System will digitally manage the benefit.
Is Every Motorcycle or 800cc Car Automatically Eligible?
No. Owning a small vehicle does not automatically guarantee approval.
The government has created an automated verification process. Applicant information is checked using CNIC, SIM, vehicle registration, and provincial vehicle records.

There is also an important detail worth noting. Public announcements specifically include motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqis and cars up to 800cc. However, the ECC’s September 14 approval states that the scheme is restricted to non-commercial users.

How Much Petrol Can You Get at the Discounted Rate?
There are limits because the Rs100 relief does not apply to unlimited fuel.
Motorcycles, rickshaws and other qualifying two- and three-wheelers have a monthly limit of 20 litres. The ECC explained that this can be provided as 5 litres per week, representing Rs500 in weekly relief.
Eligible cars of up to 800cc receive relief based on a maximum monthly quota of 30 litres. The ECC described the car benefit as Rs1,000 for ten days, based on 10 litres at Rs100 relief per litre.
These limits allow the government to target normal daily travel rather than unlimited fuel consumption.
For example, a motorcycle owner using the complete monthly quota can save Rs2,000. A small-car owner using all 30 eligible litres can save Rs3,000.
When Will the Petrol Relief Scheme Start?
The rollout is being carried out in stages.
The scheme became available in Islamabad from the night between September 14 and September 15, 2026.
For the rest of Pakistan, the government announced that the scheme would become available from the night between Wednesday, September 16, and Thursday, September 17, 2026.
The nationwide rollout includes the provinces as well as Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Registration opened before the full nationwide launch, so eligible citizens can complete the registration process in advance.
How to Register for PM Petrol Relief Scheme
The government has kept the registration process digital and relatively simple.
You do not need to visit a government office just to submit the initial registration. The process uses the SMS short code 9771.
You need your CNIC, vehicle registration number, province or region code, and vehicle registration date.
The SMS should be sent from a SIM registered in your own name because the system uses official records to verify the applicant.

The Ministry of Information Technology said applicants should send the required information to 9771. After the information is checked successfully, the applicant receives a confirmation message.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also directed authorities on September 14 to make the registration SMS free of cost and to provide proper guidance to citizens using the program.
How Do You Get the Fuel Token?
Registration is only the first stage.
After successful registration, you need a fuel token before purchasing petrol under the scheme.

How Much Will the Petrol Relief Scheme Cost the Government?
The relief package is a major financial commitment.
The Economic Coordination Committee approved Rs75 billion as a Technical Supplementary Grant for implementation of the scheme.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik also said the government would provide around Rs25 billion per month for the fuel relief program.
This shows why the relief is being targeted instead of reducing the petrol price for every consumer in the country.

A rejected application does not always mean that your vehicle type is outside the scheme.

Why This Petrol Relief Matters for Ordinary Pakistanis
Fuel prices affect much more than the cost of filling a tank.
A motorcycle rider may travel to work six days a week. A delivery worker may spend a large part of daily earnings on petrol. Families using small cars may need fuel for school, work, medical visits and basic household travel.
Saving Rs2,000 or Rs3,000 a month may not remove the entire pressure created by higher fuel prices, but it can make a noticeable difference for households already managing food, electricity, rent and transport costs.

Is Petrol Now Rs100 Per Litre Under the Scheme?
No. This is one of the most important points to understand.
The announcement provides Rs100 relief per litre. It does not set the retail petrol price at Rs100 per litre.
If the normal market price is RsX per litre, an eligible consumer pays roughly RsX minus Rs100 for the quantity covered by the approved scheme.
